The Story

The original idea for this track was to do something with the audio from Steamboat Willie in honor of it entering the public domain in 2024. I initially identified the main sample in the beat, which is from the section where Mickey is playing Xylophone. Next I laid down a drum line, on top of which I added a bunch of percussive sounds taken from little snippets of the Steamboat Willie audio.

For the lyrics, the idea was to take the image of Mickey Mouse as a prototypical symbol of America and completely flip it on it's head.
